Three of the first girls to go to St Bees School, near Whitehaven, are getting together for a reunion with a difference in June.

Anya and Sam Robson and Yvonne Reay, who have a combined age of 150, will be linking hands to swim a combined total of five miles across Lake Windermere as part of the Great North Swim event on 15 June.

The three were on Grindal House together in the early 1980’s and have kept in touch ever since, despite living in York, London and France respectively. Two year’s ago they attended the St Bees school reunion in Manchester.

Also swimming is former St Bees’ teacher Charm Robson, 74 (Anya and Sam’s mum)

Raising money for two special causes, they are determined to complete the challenge, but admit that they may have bitten off more than they can chew.

Yvonne said: “We decided to do it last year when we got together in the South of France at Anya’s home. It seemed like a good idea at the time! Now it’s nearly here, we’re not so sure and we’re all very nervous.

Whatever happens on the day, we’re looking forward to meeting up and having a nice weekend in the Lakes. And we’re all raising money for some good causes, so please support us and sponsor us.”
